Say No! To the Pound Lane Escalator …is the focus of this facebook group, which is, as it clearly states, quite against the building of the Pound Lane escalator. Not only about the escalator, there are quite a few other local Hong Kong topics in the group discussion. As reactionary as many of the group’s posts may seem, at least concerning the escalator, we think this kind of organisation with social media is an important sign of our times. Through new media technology we see the development and strengthening of communities, both online and co-located in the real world. Therefore though we do not support all of the perspectives shared at this facebook group, we share it to draw attention to the importance of social activism in regards to planning, development and change of our neighbourhoods and communities.
