Here’s a discussion on another escalator infrastructure project, proposed for Pound Lane. Though the article is a few years old, it shares different perspectives on the use and utility of a public infrastructure development which would significantly alter the environment. The current state of the plan to create this elevator is uncertain, but we hope it is on hold indefinitely, as the Pound Lane stairs remain a unique and special place and, we think, should be protected as such. Even so, there is obvious merit in the suggestion that some people need assistance to access these steep urban landscapes, in particular in the immediate surroundings of the local hospital. Further research is clearly needed to determine, for whom and how, would benefit accrue from another escalator project, here or elsewhere in Hong Kong. Read more…
