Stairs are an important part of Hong Kong’s cultural landscape heritage. Unlike slopes and trees, there is no formal registration process for stairs. With the HKSAR’s interest in building escalators to scale the hills of Hong Kong, there is an urgent need to document the stairs and raise public awareness about their unique character and importance in creating a sustainable, walkable city.
